Arwen Williams is a daughter of North Wales; she was raised among the ancient standing stones and green hills in the land of fairies. Her parents were Buddhist—dad being an antique dealer and mum running a Buddhist retreat centre. Mum also designed costumes for a local theatre; a key to Arwen’s passion for costuming.

Throughout Arwen’s life she has been inspired by varied cultures. In 1975 she first saw the Masai dance while in Kenya and was awestruck. This sparked her curiosity in dance. In her subsequent travels she sought art, dance and traditional costumes of the world, and the influences are reflected in her clothing designs.

The Mission of Arwen’s Apparel

We strive to bring people joy through clothing—to see them come to life whether on stage, in the dance class, or just in every day life. We want people to love our clothes, to wear and feel the love we put into creating them. It is our job to make you look good, to create for you, to listen to what you have to say about what you want to wear. We want to get to know you, so visit us in our Kamloops shop or at one of the events.

Our high quality clothing and enduring designs will stand up to years of wear.  Arwen handpicks all the fabrics that are used. She meets each of the sewers both here in BC and overseas.

The Factory Outlet

Our Factory outlet is located in Kamloops, at 319 Victoria Street, inside Instinct Adornment's shop. Visit our Facebook page - Arwen's Apparel.

About Bamboo Fabric

Bamboo fabric is comfortable next to the skin as it is softer than most other fabrics such as wool or hemp. It is light, strong, and very absorbent so has excellent wicking properties.  This, along with its insulating value can cause the wearer to feel warmer in winter and cooler in summer.  It is, to some extent, antibacterial as well, which neutralizes odours.

Bamboo fabric is a natural textile made from the pulp of the bamboo grass, and is more sustainable than most textile fibers. The bamboo plant is quick-growning and does not require herbicides and pesticides, so can be easily grown organically and replanted yearly in the same soil.  The bamboo is pulped until it separates into thin threads or fiber and these are spun and dyed, then woven into cloth. The product has great stretch, and memory to retain its shape.  The fabric is machine washable, and stands up to a great many washings.

Many Thanks
“A huge thank you to Martina for her constant support and feedback and for pushing the envelope of dance and costuming. Also to Samantha and Rachel—to Deb Pinchback and to Sue Johnston. Thank you to Nath, and all the dancers and teachers that have supported me on this journey.”
